Kids First Team (School Board Oversight Committee)
October 25, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Hi Team Members!
It’s been a long two months, but we’re excited to be back in gear. June still has a few issues with long-haul Covid but is determined to work through them, and stamina is returning steadily.
The July 7th meeting with JC Church and Tim Throckmorton from Family Research Council was well attended, very inspirational, and, our School Board Oversight Committee was well represented. We were challenged to be actively engaged in local politics, especially School Board because of the impact education has on our children. JC suggested that people with strong conservative views NEED to be running for office.
Bringing in Keith Flaugh and Domine Clemons from Florida Citizens Alliance to do a training session on August 5th was fruitful as well. They covered subjects like dealing with bullying, parent and community activism, the power of collaboration, and using our skill sets to affect change. FCA has a program called KIDS FIRST which is a nonpartisan coalition of local, like-minded groups who team together to engage community influencers to provide improved education solutions. They strongly promoted the HOPE Scholarship for bullied children. Since the Republican Party, T.E.A. Party and local Community Impact Team (a project of the Family Research Council) all have volunteers willing to attend school board meetings, root out BLM, Critical Race Theory, and pornographic content in books available to students, we felt that it would be to our advantage to join forces. Our group is now called St Lucie County Kids First Team. Our focus will be on creating awareness of failing schools and grading systems, affirming parents’ rights, uncovering the undermining of Constitutional values, maintaining religious freedom, and stopping pornography. Critical Race Theory is only the tip of the iceberg. We will have assigned “boots on the ground” volunteers in each school board meeting to speak out as well as each monthly workshop to monitor/take notes. It’s a huge job, but we cannot neglect the future generations with a shrug of the shoulder or closed eyes.
Treasure Coast Builders’ Association, 6560 US Rt 1 (near Draft House) has been secured for a meeting on Monday, October 25th from 6:30-8:30pm. Our goal is to have monthly meetings with reports, new information sharing, strategizing and coordinating our efforts to cover as many bases as possible.
Moving forward, all members are encouraged to work as one unified team toward accomplishing common aims and objectives. So much will get done when we’re on the same page!
The SB meetings for October will take place in the School Board Room, 9461 Brandywine Ln, Port St Lucie. The regular meeting where people may speak will be Oct. 12th at 5PM. Their Work Session where we may only listen/take notes occurs on Oct. 26th at 9AM.
Pray for wisdom and discernment for all of us. What an opportunity to make a difference!
Sincerely,
Leigh and June Lamson
